Job Description: School Health Assistant 2025-2026

Role Summary
- Provide direct health and hygiene support for our school community (e.g. bandaids, fever, nosebleeds, vomiting, toileting, diapering, medication administration, etc.).
Role Information
- Full-time role. Monday through Friday, 7:30 am-3:30 pm (4:30 pm on Wednesdays).
- This role follows the school calendar, including all-staff in-service and professional development days.
- Reports to: Family Engagement Manager
- Key relationships: Principal, Assistant Principals, Operations team, Teachers & Assistants, Students, Families, Health-Related Community Partners

- 100% Compliance with rules regarding student health records
- 85% satisfaction among stakeholders (including teachers and families)
- Satisfactory performance evaluations

Key Responsibilities
Direct Student Care (for Lower School Campus Only)
- Provide direct care to students with acute health needs (e.g. bandaids, ice packs, nosebleeds, vomiting, fever, seizure, etc.)
- Provide direct support to students with toileting and diapering needs
- Administer medications and document accurately according to physician orders
- Communicate with families when children are sick or injured at school and provide and file documentation. Determine when children need to leave school or stay home due to sickness or injury, and communicate this decision with stakeholders. Prioritize children’s presence at school whenever possible, while ensuring the health and safety of the child and other members of the school community
- Provide direct care to school children with health conditions who require specialized nursing related services according to the physician directed plan of care for that student including but not limited to catheterizations, insulin injections, and G-tube feeds
- Coordinate with Emergency Services in case of a medical emergency
- Execute health care plans for students with special needs including but not limited to individual health plans and emergency health plans, update them as needed, and provide them to teachers and staff as necessary
Health Records (for Lower and Upper School Campuses)
- Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential student health records
- Assist Enrollment Specialist in obtaining immunization records for each student
- Maintain allergy list. Distribute allergy list and any updates to classroom teachers, PreK Extended Day teachers, and Aftercare teachers
School Health Functions (for Lower and Upper School Campuses)
- Ensure that school and classroom first aid kits remain appropriately stocked and that necessary first aid items are on hand to maintain the kits and school needs
- Administer or assist with health screenings (hearing tests, height/weight, body temperature etc.)
- Attend IEP meetings for students with certain medical diagnoses as needed
- Train school staff in care that can be delegated in the Health Assistant’s absence (e.g. medication administration and basic first aid)
Other Responsibilities
- Administer the Brigance Inventory for Early Development for Pre-K students in coordination with other members of the Family Engagement team
- Monitor students at arrival and/or dismissal as needed.

Qualifications and Traits
- Knowledge and experience in understanding and supporting medical needs
- Comfortable with assisting sick or injured students and helping with toileting and diapering
- Willingness to maintain valid licenses and/or certifications, including CPR, AED, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens
- Warm and firm demeanor
- Effective communication, including listening, writing, and speaking
- Ability to multitask while staying organized and attentive to detail
- Flexible, takes the initiative, and has a strong sense of personal ownership of responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with a growth mindset. Give and receive feedback in a spirit of craftsmanship

Compensation
- Salary/wage $15-$19 per hour based on experience
- Paid sick leave. Deferred pay model distributes salary throughout the year (including breaks and vacations).
