Background

Libertas School of Memphis is a public charter school serving an underserved neighborhood in Memphis by offering humane education from six weeks old through eighth grade. Our mission is to be a school for human flourishing: cultivating minds, hands, and hearts for lives of wonder, work, and love. We offer a rich, rigorous, and personalized liberal arts education through the method of Dr. Maria Montessori, with an attachment village of wraparound family supports. We began expanding our school to include Middle Grades in the 2024-2025 school year.

 

Role Summary

  • Provide direct service to students in one-on-one or small group settings to implement school-wide Special Education and RTI2 framework, ensure appropriate identification of and goal-setting for special student needs, help teachers in providing behavioral, social-emotional, and academic interventions, and support compliance of overall special education program.
  • Participate in a holistic child study process. Coordinate with classroom teachers, special educators, the Attachment Village team, families, and other key stakeholders to ensure that the needs of all children are met. 
  • Full-time role. Work hours will vary with the published school calendar; instructional hours roughly 7:35 AM - 3:30 PM (Wednesday faculty meetings until 4:30). Assist with periodic school events outside of the normal schedule.
  • Reports to Student Supports Coordinator. Key relationships: students and families; classroom teachers; leadership team members; special education service providers.
  • Measures of success for position to include student academic growth, family satisfaction, faculty satisfaction, observation feedback, performance evaluations, and related indicators.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Traits

  • At least two years of effective teaching experience in high-need communities and/or Montessori environments preferred.
  • Special education certification required. Knowledge of special education law and best practices for serving Students with Disabilities.
  • Willing to serve all children, regardless of background or needs, in an inclusive and supportive setting. Fortitude for the challenges we will face.
  • Knowledge of curriculum content and children’s developmental needs
  • Effective communication, including listening, writing, and speaking.
  • Ability to multi-task while staying organized and attentive to detail.
  • Flexible, takes initiative, and has a strong sense of personal ownership of responsibilities.
  • Work collaboratively, with a growth mindset. Give and receive feedback in a spirit of craftsmanship.
  • Model of character.
  • Dedication to support human flourishing through the Montessori method and the school’s philosophy of wonder, work, and love for all students.

Compensation

  • Salary/wage competitive with the local school district and nearby charter schools.
  • Eligible for increases, bonuses, or stipends for performance or additional duties.
  • Investment in faculty professional development and growth. We also offer to eligible applicants our Teacher Residency program, which provides financial sponsorship and additional coaching and support to achieve state licensure and/or Montessori certification. Please contact us for more details.
  • Paid sick leave. Deferred pay model distributes salary throughout the year (including breaks and vacations).
